Lotto - There was no lotto winner on the 9th of August. The numbers drawn were 24, 29, 32. The jackpot now stands at €3,000.
Senior Hurling Championship - Our involvement in this years senior hurling championship came to a dramatic end on Sunday evening in Midleton. After a slow start we were 7 points to 2 down after 20 minutes with Sars growing in strength in key areas of the field and we had several missed scoring opportunities to get us back into the game. Joe Deane added two points to bring his tally to four to send us in at the break 8 points to 4 down. We emerged after the break a different team and the fight back began. Within 15 minutes we were back on level terms at 9 points a piece and we had Sars on the backfoot as we went in search of that illusive goal, Andy Waslh coming close and rattling the crossbar. From there on both teams traded scores and with 3 minutes to go the sides were level and a deserved replay looked on the cards. However two late points from Sars put an end to this years campaign. It was a performance that all concerned should be very proud of. Keep the faith, there are better things to come.
Eric McCarthy is hosting a race night in the Old Thatch, Killeagh on Friday night in aid of his 250km Sahara desert run for the Irish Cancer Society. Please support this mad idea but very worthy cause. The night kicks off at 9pm. All welcome.

Lotto - There was no lotto winner. The numbers drawn were 8, 35, 36. The jackpot now stands at 2,600 euro.
U21 Hurling Championship - We travelled to Lisgoold on Sunday evening for our first round in U21 Hurling Championship. Carrignavar were our opposition. It was a tense opening 5 minutes before Philip O'Neill broke the deadlock with a long range free. Carrigs response was instant. We hit a purle patch and scored 4 points without reply. We out scored Carrig 10 points to 6, seven of those were super scores from play. The second half never lived up to the first half. In 25 minutes we scored 4 points clear to Carrigs 2 to put us 6 points ahead with less than 4 minutes to go. A Carrig free that wasnt dealt with in the square was deflected to the net. It was now a 3 point game and Carrig got a new lease of life. A point from play pushed our lead to 4 points. The resulting puck out landed in the hand of Carrig's no.11 who travelled 50 yards amd rifled it to the back of the net. We managed to hang on til the final whistle and advance to the next round. Well done to all concerned.
Fixtures - Senior Hurling Championship - Killeagh vs Sars, Sunday 15th at 7pm in Midleton. Support vital!!!

There was no winner of the GAA lotto. The numbers drawn were 33,35,36. Next week's jackpot stands at 2,400 euro.
Senior Hurling League - Ballinhassig travelled to us last Friday evening for a game that never sparked in the opening half as there seemed to be little between the sides. Two points separated us at half time. The second half was a different story and our lads upped the anty. It was a welcome return to senior hurling for Brendan Barry and this game saw us take the spoils on a scoreline of Killeagh 3-15 Ballinhassig 1-14.
Junior Hurling Championship - Killeagh 0-9 Erin's Own 1-21.
Kevin O'Connor's charges went up against big guns Erin's Own in Rostellan on Sunday evening. The opening 20 minutes saw little between both sides. Erin's Own had four on the board before we got off the mark however. With 20 minutes gone it was 7 points to 3. Then Erin's Own began to find their range. Half time Erin's Own 0-12 Killeagh 0-3.
We started brightly in the second half and narrowed the gap to five points. Again Erin's Own upped the anty and pulled away. We never gave up and it was a gallant performance right to the end. Well done to all involved.

Junior A Hurling Championship - Killeagh 1-14 vs Cloyne 2-09
On Thursday night Kevin O'Connor's charges headed to Youghal's Copper Raleigh. Shocking weather conditions meant that this game was going to go down to be a dog fight right down to the wire. Cloyne opened the scoring in the opening minutes and then Stephen O'Brien got us going with his first of eight. Also opening their accounts was Noel O'Connor and David O'Keefe to see us go in at the break two points clear. In the second half both sides traded scores before Clint Galvin rattled the net to keep us in front but Cloyne's response was instant . We went three points ahead again but a late goal from Cloyne forced extra time. When we went ahead Cloyne levelled it but Stephen O'Brien and John Walsh steadied the ship along with a great team effort from all involved to see us through to the third round.
Scorers: S. O'Brien (0-8) C. Galvin (1-1) J. Walsh (0-2) J. Fogarty (0-1) N.O'Connor (0-1)
Junior B Hurling Championship - St. Catherine's 1-12 Killeagh 1-06

Lotto: There was no winner of the lotto jackpot of 1,400 euro on Monday 21st. The numbers drawn were 12,25,34. The jackpot now stands at 1,600 euro.
Junior A Hurling Championship - On Sunday evening Kevin O'Connor's charges headed to Castlelyons for their first round of championship againgst Carrig na bhFear. When any small club can field a second team it's great, what's even better is when that team can compete and be competitive against another club's first team. There was little between the sides in the opening exchanges, a puck of the ball in fact and at half time the scoreline read Carrig na bhFear 0-7 Killeagh 0-4. Carrig extended that lead to 3 pucks of the ball before we found the range and pegged them back to a puck of the ball once more and thoughts of a victory looked possible. However a couple of long ramge efforts pucshe Carrig ahead. Never the less a great performance from the boys in green. It finished on a scoreline of Carrig na bhFear 0-15 Killeagh 0-9.
Team: Shane Scully, Taghg O'Connor, Stephen O'Brien, Eddie Cashman, Paul Motherway, John Walsh, Clint Galvin, Brendan Keniry, David O'Keefe, Kevin Lane, Liam Kelly, Noel O'Connor, Alan Keniry, Stephen Murphy, Daniel Walsh.
Senior Hurling Championship - Killeagh 1-14 vs Cloyne 1-11.
On Friday night in Castlemartyr we came in search of a victory and by god did we get it. Manys a pundit that wrote us off, we even had a few locals that doubted us as well. But when Paudraig McGrath in his rousing team talk asked those men around him to shed blood if needs be for each other and this club then that victory would be ours. You would believe anything was possible on this night and we proved that we are entitled to our senior hurling status. Everything that needs to be read and said by all those pundits and sports writers will have been said and the game will have been well and truly disected so that's one less job for me, but what they wont say is how proud we are of those men on the field for what can only be described as a gallant performance. We eagerly await the next round.
A special mention to our main man between the sticks who lines out for the Kerry Senior Hurling team in the Christy Ring Cup this Saturday in Croke Park. An honour he richly deserves. We wish him the best of luck.

Junior A Hurling League - Killeagh 1-9 Erin's Own 3-9.
Our Junior hurlers travelled to Caherlag on last Thursday night and faced a well organised Erin's Own side. Goals win matches and it was Erin's Own who slipped three past us. A tight encounter otherwise meant there was little between both teams. At half time it was 3-06 to 1-6. But we couldnt breach the gap but we held our own in the second half.
Fixtures: Senior Hurling Championship vs Cloyne, Friday 25th at 7:30pm in Castlemartyr. Not to be missed!
Junior A Hurling Championship vs Carrig na bhFear, Sunday 27th at 3pm in Castlelyons.
U14 A East Cork Final vs Carrigtohill, Thursday 24th at 7pm in Caherlag.
Senior Hurling League - Killeagh 4-13 vs Sars 1-17. Sars travelled to us on Tuesday night for our latest league encounter. Both teams with a point to prove after being defeated in the opening championship games. This game got off to a flying start with very little to separate both sides. We went in at the break marginally ahead. The breaks came our way in the secons half and we held on to that lead for the remainder of the game and a well deserved victory on the night.
Killeagh 2-10 vs Erins Own 3-18. On Saturday evening we travelled to Caherlag hoping to build on our mid week victory in Killeagh. But Erin's Own still on a high from their championship first round victory had other ideas and curtailed our attacks and had our rear guard under pressure. Right from the off we lost a couple of key players early in the first half and that unsettled us in a game where we were always playing catch up. But we stil managed to clock up a respectable score which on other nights would win many a match. Over all a good performance and we look forward to Friday night in Castlemartyr.

Junior A Hurling - Sars 1-17 Killeagh 3-8. On Friday night our juniors took on Sars in Riverstown in the league in a game that manager Kevin O'Connor described as a cracker. From the throw in there was little between the sides. We went in at the break a well deserved two points up although some poor decisions had been made against us. What looked like two notably well taken points being waved wide by the referee. Sars pulled in front but with grit and determination we pulled it back to a point and we were awarded a late free. An indication that time was up from the referee we slotted it over the bar for a draw. However the ref allowed the game to continue for two minutes more and Sars goaled meaning our fourth defeat in the league. Hard luck and well done to the lads.

7/6/10
Senior Hurling Championship - On Friday night we didnt hav a good night in the office. A galllant performance by all and it was always going to be hard to call. Going in two points up at half time and the omens looked good but in the opening 5 minutes of the second half a Carrigtohill blitz seemed to shell shock us and we never recovered. A point from a free after 19 minutes was our only reward in the second half as Carrigtohill grew in confidence. If we lok at things on the bright side we are still in championship with loads to play for and after the weekend a lot of big guns got turned over so it should make for an interesting campaign this year.
Our next opponents are our near neighbours Cloyne which is pencilled in for the weekend of June 27th. Time and venue to be announced. Should be a cracker.

Senior Hurling League: It was a week of mixed fortunes for Killeagh Senior Hurlers. On Wednesday night we played St. Finbarr's in Killeagh. We opened brightly and took an early three point lead. In the opening half there were some great individual performances, Joe Deane unlucky not to rattle the net more than once. On the halfway mark we led 1-9 to 0-9. The Barr's started the second half with purpose and within the opening ten minutes we found ourselves trailing by two points. We tackewd on two to close the gap but two goals in quick succession killed any chance of a comeback. Final score St. Finbarr's 4-15 to Killeagh 1-13.
On Sunday evening we travelled to a Midleton to take on the Magpies. In ther opening five minutes Andy Walsh had us three points in front before Midleton opened their account. Midleton closed the gap and from there on in both teams traded scores until Joe Deane rattled the Midleton net to open the gap to two points and just before half time Mark Landers goaled from close range to leave the score 2-8 to 0-9 points in favour of Killeagh. The second half started much the same as the opening half and Killeagh maintained the five point lead as both teams traded scores. A goal midways through the second half from Midleton narrowed the gap to two points and with only minutes remaining we conceded a 21 yard free which was initially saved but found the back of the net through a rebound. Now on the backfoot and a point down a long puck out from Bernard Rochford found the hand of Joe Budds who tied the scores up just on the stroke of full time. Final score 2-13 to 2-13. There will be no more league fixtures now until after championship.

Junior A Football Quarter Final: Glenbower Rovers 0-6 Carrig na bhFear 0-11.
Lisgoold was the venue on Sunday evening for this quarter final tie. Carrig na bhFear got off to a flying start scoring 0-4 in the opening 10 minutes. It took until the 14th minute for Glenbower Rovers to register their first score courtesy of Sean Long. We settled well and Mark Landers and Larry Collins tacked on two more to leave it 0-4 to 0-3 going in at the break. Carrig na bhFear started the second half stronger opening their account in the first minute and in five minutes tacked on four in a row. It wasnt until Cian Fogarty enetered the fray after 15 minutes that we opened our account. Sean Long and John O'Connor added two more to bring our tally to 0-6. Its Carrig na bhFear who advance to the semi final stages. Anyone who wants an in-dept version of the game should read Declan Barron's column.
La na gClub: We held our La na gClub on Sunday last, there was a fantastic turn out with loads to see and do and with our lives being so busy with one thing and another it was nice to see some many people relaxed and having a good old natter and catching up. Glenbower Rovers 0-6 vs Bride Rovers 1-2:
In what can only be described as atrocious weather conditions and a very small crowd, Glenbower Rovers advanced to the next round of Junior A Football Championship. After a narrow victory in Ballynoe Saturday evening this was by no means a classic. In the opening half we fought driving rain and gale force winds and still managed to notch up 4 points to Bride Rovers two. With the wind at our backs we hoped to push on but it was nearly 10 minutes into the second half till we registered our first score and another 10 before we registered our second and final score of the game. With ten minutes to go and 4 points up one might have thought we had it all wrapped up but a Bride Rovers goal with five minutes to go made it a very tense closing 5 minutes. Two goal chances went a begging for us but we managed to cling on by a solitary point. We now face Carrignavar in the next round with date, time and venue to be announced.

Senior Hurling League - Blarney 2-12 Killeagh 1-8
After last week's display against The Glen a few of us could be forgiven for dismissing the Blarney challenge ever before a ball was struck. Blarney on the other hand had other ideas. In the opening 5 minutes Blarney were two points to one up. Their opening goal saw them open the gap to 5 points before Joe Deane, Sean Long and Larry Collins closed the gap to two points. Half time score Blarney 1-5 Killeagh 0-6. Blarney got off to a flying start in the second half notching up 1-2 before Philip O'Neill goaled from a 13 yard free. Scores were hard to come by as Blarney's rear guard snuffed out any attack that came their way, Joe added two more points but Blarney had found their range and tacked on another 5 points to finish the stronger side in this league encounter.

Glenbower Rovers 2-16 vs Fr O'Neills 1-14
A cracking Easter Sunday mornings entertainment was had by all who came to see this replay . It was Fr O'Neills who got off to a flying start with three unanswered points in the opening ten minutes before Joe Deane got us off the mark with a well taken goal. We knew then that this was going to go down to the line. After twenty minutes of great football we were tied at 1-04 a piece, Joe Deane, Brian Collins and Sean Long all getting on the scoreboard . Last week we went in to the break a point up, today a point down 1-08 to 1-07. The second half was more of the same with fifteen minutes gone we were still tied at 1-10 a piece, Joe Budds, John O'Connor and Sean Long all got on the score sheet making it 1-12 a piece. With five minutes to go our defence and midfield were on top, the chance of a penalty and two wides gone a begging O'Neills then break but their effort goes to the right and wide. Extra time again O'Neills are first to get off the mark. After six minutes John O'Connor found his range with two great points. Then came the break we were looking for. Timmy Murphy broke down an O'Neills attack and started one of our own. Joe Budds got on the end of it and rattled O'Neills net. Half time 2-14 to 1-13 . Our defence and midfield were outstanding all afternoon. O'Neills only managed to breach our rear guard once more to come to within a goal but a 45 from Joe cancelled that out. But it was Mark Landers who was going to have the last word with a well taken point to see the men from Glenbower advance to the draw stage of the championship. Well done to all involved.

Junior A football Championship Glenbower Rovers 2-14 vs Fr. O'Neill's 2-14 (after extra time).
In front of a small crowd on Saturday evening we opened our championship account against our near neighbours Fr. O'Neill's. It was they who got off to the better start putting 4 points on the scoreboard before Kevin Lane connected with a loose in the square to give us the opening goal. Fr. O'Neill's added two more to their account before we hit a purple patch and finished the stronger in the first half on a scoreline of 1-4 to 0-6. Fr. O'Neill's were awarded a penalty in the opening quarter of the second half which was dispatched to the back of the net but shortly after Sean Long cancelled that out with a well taken goal of his own. The scoreline changed several times over the next twenty minutes. With two minutes to go we were two points in front. But Fr O'Neill's never gave up and were awarded a late 45 to level the match and force extra time. Full time score 2-9 a piece. In the first half of extra time Fr. O'Neill's took a three point lead but the never say die attitude of the men from Glenbower saw us close that gap and a last score of the game came from Joe Deane, one of his five in extra time, to level it and force a replay. No fixture has been made for the replay.

As a club and a parish Killeagh GAA would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the Fitzgibbon family on the loss of their mother Maureen who passed away over the weekend. May the soil of Killeagh rest lightly over her mortal remains and may her soul rest in peace.
On Sunday morning our Junior A footballers played Lisgoold in Killeagh. While it took a while to get going we looked inpressive with some passages of play and some fine individual scores as our midfield and defence stamped their authority on the game. Half time score Glenbower Rovers 0-6 Lisgoold 0-2. We started the second half with a purpose with Joe and Andy finding the net and some lads played crossbar challenge. We added three more points to see out the game. Glernbower Rovers 2-9 Lisgoold 0-2. Next weeks opponents will be a more formiddable force as they take on Fr O'Neill's in Junior A Championship on Saturday 27th at 4:30pm in Copper Raleigh, Youghal. Please Support!

Senior Hurling: Killeagh opened their senior hurling campaign against near neighbours and rivals Cloyne in Killeagh on Sunday morning. From the first whistle this game was played at a frantic pace and both teams can be forgiven for being a little rusty with some wayward wides. It was Killeagh's Andy Walsh who opened our account with a point from play and Joe Deane got off the mark with a 30 yard free. Again Andy Walsh popped up to smash home the opening goal. Cloyne soon got their opening score and then rattled our net before John Fitzgerald hit a superb long range point from play and Joe Deane tacked on two more. Cloyne's late rally just before half time saw both sides go in at the break with a score of 1-06. The breeze to our backs in the second half we opened with a purpose with Joe Deane goaling inside the second minute and Brian Collins and Joe adding 3 more points before Cloyne settled and tacked on two points. But our defence repelled attack after attack. Andy and Philip added two before Cloyne goaled again. An entertaining game on a beautiful spring morning saw us take maximum points in this opening league game game on a scoreline of Killeagh 2-14 Cloyne 2-10.

On Sunday evening our junior A footballers were out for their third league game of the season in Killeagh. In the opening quarter of the game there was little separating the sides but we gradually stamped our authority on the game with some great individual scores and the opening goal of the game scored by Joe Deane was just enough to edge us in front at half time. Glenbower Rovers 1-4 Ballinacurra 0-6. We emerged a different team in the second half adding a total of 3-6 to our tally while Ballinacurra only managed 0-2 which was down to some great defending. Final score: Glenbower Rovers 4-10 Ballinacurra 0-8.

Our under 15's played Castlelyons in the first round of the championship in Pilmore on Sunday evening. A very entertaining game that ebbed and flowed with only a point separating the sides right up until the last ten minutes when Killeagh/Ita's pulled away with a couple of fine goals to see us win it out on a scoreline of 6-10 to 3-7.
Our Junior A footballer's played Cloyne on Sunday in their third league outing. The first half was low scoring with both sides going in at half time with four points each. Not much improved the second half, Cloyne took the advantage and the scoreline finished Cloyne 1-10 to Glenbower Rovers 0-7.

Glenbower Rovers 0-8 vs Carrig na Bhfear 1-13.
We played our second league game of the season on Sunday 14th in Killeagh and we were looking to continue our good run. For much of the first half there was nothing between the two sides and there were some fine individual scores. It looked as if we were to take a two point lead into half time but Cariig na Bhfear snatched a goal to see the scoreline 1-4 to 0-6 points at the interval. As of last week we again failed to convert scores and only managed to tack on two points in the second half while Carrig na Bhfear found their range and added nine points to their tally. But overall it was a good performance and an enjoyable game of football to watch and maybe the wedding didn't help matters either. Congratulations to Thelma and James Fogarty on their marriage.
